Weddings tend to be surrounded by all sorts of rules of etiquette and myths. However attentive you want to be about these things, keep in mind the fact that there are still a lot of myths you can definitely ignore when it comes to the Big Day. What are the most common wedding etiquette “rules” you can leave aside? Read on and find out more:
- The white dress. Alright, this myth may have made its point back when brides had to be pure and when society would harshly condemn them for not being that. However, in this day and age, it is perfectly acceptable to wear a wedding gown in whatever color you like – from fuchsia to black and from bright green to cherry red, there’s absolutely no limit at all.
- The bridesmaids and groomsmen. There are so many outdated “rules” when it comes to the wedding party! First and foremost, there’s the one that says that you have to actually have a wedding party and that it absolutely has to include six bridesmaids and six groomsmen. If you don’t want to put anyone through the trouble of paying for expensive suits, dresses and accessories simply don’t do it. Furthermore, there’s nobody who can stop you from having “bridesmen” or “groomsladies” either. Last, but definitely not least, it is more than acceptable for the maid of honor to give a speech too.
- The alcohol. After all the wedding planning buzz and after all the stress and nervousness, both of you deserve a drink or two. So yes, you are allowed to have alcohol. It’s not necessarily fine to get really drunk, but as long as you’re having fun (which, of course, is the entire point of the wedding reception), you are free to do whatever makes you feel great about this big moment in your life.
